Of everything you learned, what do you think
will have the biggest impact on student learning?
Of everything I've learned, I think the student centered assessment piece will have the biggest impact on student learning. As I said in my previous blog post, I realized that I don't put a lot of trust in my students' strengths and I think that I am slowly learning how to do that. I also think that one of my weaknesses as a Special Education teacher is that I tend to just give my kids the basics and not delve into anything too deep, which in turn causes me to not give my students the opportunity to think critically or solve problems. This goes completely against my philosophy of education which is that we as teachers are creating the people who will solve the problems of our future. I hope that I take this reminder away from this course.
Wow! What an incredible realization to come to. You will be a better teacher forward for this. My biggest struggle this year as a fellow special education teacher has been that I only find the time to teach those basics and do not have the ability to go deeper. I too want to keep this course as a reminder and better my instruction to challenge my kids to be better problems solvers.
